Track:Bolt wins 200 at Switzerland meet
Usain Bolt clocked 19.63 seconds after easing up before the finish in his first 200-meter race since the Olympics at the Athletissima Grand Prix in Lausanne, Switzerland.
It was the second-fastest time in the world this year — topped only by his world record of 19.30 while winning the gold medal.
He ran 30 minutes after Asafa Powell achieved the second-fastest 100 ever on the same track. Powell’s time of 9.72 equaled Bolt’s run in setting a then-world record in New York last May. Bolt bettered that with his gold-winning time of 9.69.
Golf:Ochoa critical of policy on English
Lorena Ochoa of Mexico says a new LPGA Tour policy requiring players to be effective in English starting in 2009 is a “little drastic.” Ochoa, the No. 1 player in women’s golf, says golfers are better judged by their performance. She speaks English
Colleges: Basketball gets strength coach at U-M
Mike Curtis , who spent six years with the NBA’s Grizzlies as strength and conditioning coach, has taken that same position with the Michigan men’s and women’s basketball teams. Curtis previously worked as basketball strength coach for South Carolina (2001-02) and Dayton (2000-01).
• Big Ten honors two: Illinois quarterback Juice Williams ‘ 451 yards passing earned him a share of this week’s Big Ten offensive player-of-the-week honors with Indiana quarterback Kellen Lewis . Williams threw five touchdown passes in a 52-42 loss to Missouri. Lewis had 185 yards rushing and 144 yards passing, plus two TDs in a 31-13 victory over Western Kentucky.
