Ginn Racing, a NASCAR team owned by golf course and resort developer Bobby Ginn, fired veteran Nextel Cup drivers Sterling Marlin and Joe Nemechek, and might drop one car from its stable as the company seeks new sponsors.

Aric Almirola, a 23-year-old driver in the Busch series, has been hired to share driving duties with Mark Martin in the No. 01 Chevrolet, Ginn’s top team, the Mooresville, N.C.-based company said in a statement.

Regan Smith, also 23, will drive the No. 14 Chevrolet being vacated by Marlin, a 30-year NASCAR veteran.

“These two 23-year-old drivers are the groundwork for future success,” Jay Frye, chief executive officer of Ginn Racing, said in the statement. “We appreciate everything that Joe and Sterling have done for us. They have been a class act.”

The future of the No. 13 car, which had been driven by Nemechek and has run most of the season with Ginn Resorts sponsorship, is being evaluated.

Smith will drive the No. 14 car in the next Nextel Cup race, at Indianapolis on July 29. Almirola will debut at Watkins Glen, N.Y., on Aug. 12.
