College baseball: Abbott, Incaviglia get into Hall

Jim Abbott, a former Michigan star and major league pitcher, was one of 11 former players and coaches inducted Wednesday into the College Baseball Hall of Fame at Lubbock, Texas.

Abbott was born without a right hand. He led the Wolverines to two Big Ten titles before going directly to the major leagues. Abbott played 10 seasons. Ex-Tiger Pete Incaviglia (Oklahoma State) also made it.

Motor sports:Two drivers lose points

NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers Kyle Busch and Johnny Sauter lost 25 points apiece after their cars failed postrace inspection at New Hampshire International Speedway. The fronts of both cars were too close to the ground when measured by officials after the Lennox Tools 400 on Sunday. Alan Gustafson , Busch’s crew chief, and Robert Barker , who heads Sauter’s team, were fined $25,000 apiece and placed on probation until Sept. 19.

Notable: Slump is over for Funny Cide

Funny Cide, the 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness champion, won the 31st running of the $100,000 Wadsworth Memorial Handicap at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack, driving past pace-setting Johnie Bye Night down the stretch and pulling away by three lengths at the finish at Farmington, N.Y. The 7-year-old Funny Cide had not won in six straight outings.
